My student, research assistant, and co-author Steve Miller defended his dissertation today. He’s doing some very creative work on IQ, education, and political economy, including:

  • a neat critique of Thomas Dee’s well-known article on the civic returns of education, and
  • the first paper that re-examines the tendency of educated people to “think like economists” after controlling for IQ. (I’m a co-author; can you guess the punchline?)

Miller has taken a position at Western Carolina University. So if you feel like the Biltmore would be a lot more fun if you could talk economics during the tour, you’re in luck!
