Couldn't agree with you more. Not only has Facebook and similar sites increased our immediacy and diversity of connections but also our potential for nearly instantaneous almost unified and roughly organized action.
An example came to be this morning. Hours after the Haitian earthquake yesterday this group

was created from half a world away to help begin the recovery effort.
