An LA Times editorial notes,

that raises the question of whether Congress itself should increase the size of the House, not only to minimize disparities but to take at least some account of the population explosion that has occurred since 1911.

Pointer from Mark Thoma. This is one of the factors that I argue has made the United States structurally less democratic in recent decades.

I believe that individual voters have less voice in large Congressional districts. I may be right or wrong about that belief. When I expressed that belief about school districts, Matt Yglesias charged me with racism. That is a very serious charge, based on the most uncharitable interpretation possible of what I wrote. I wonder if he might reconsider the wisdom of taking that tack.

Comments are off, because otherwise I am sure people would let loose with ad hominem remarks against Yglesias, and that would simply foul the air further.
