My mother, who died with mesothelioma, underwent some experimental proceedures. Her attitude: "What's it going to do? Kill me?" She broke the record for living with mesothelioma -- by a year.
Who knows if she would still be alive if the FDA hadn't blocked decades of advancements.

Cool letter.
I'm very happy to hear that your wife survived her ordeal.
The letter was very good - its brevity and precision remind me of Don Boudreax's letters.
In our information age, there is no purpose for an FDA-type entity, still less for one "with teeth". It is interesting to compare the evolution of the FDA to Arnold's adjacent post on consensual govt - we appear to be moving the wrong way.
The other sickening thing is the ease with which influential politicians get access to otherwise-unapproved drugs. They, after all, are smart enough to make their own decisions, just not the rest of us.
