Fabio Rojas’ pearls of wisdom for grad students are now available as a concise, information-packed $2 e-book. Definitely worth the money if you have any noticeable interest in grad school. My only complaint: He left out my single favorite piece of advice for would-be students in humanities and social science: Get an econ Ph.D. instead, and call whatever you do “economics.”
To be fair, I gave this advice to Fab before he started grad school in sociology. He ignored me and now has tenure in Indiana’s soc department…

Do you have standard or preferred advice for undergrads as well? I ask in part because I’ve produced some of my own for freshmen (i.e. here) and am curious if there’s something essential I’ve missed.

Thanks for the kind words, Bryan. Though I am not an economics Ph.D., I think it is good grad skool advice to make good friends who are econ PhDs – great people to know!

What about this advice: “don’t go, get a job instead”?
Does going to grad school pay?

Floccina: yes, the first chapter is called “don’t go to graduate school.” Grad school is usually a bad deal for most folks.
